Croydon Brass Band Places 3rd in the VBL 2026 State Band Championships

Croydon Brass Band competed in the 2026 Victorian Band League (VBL) State Band Championships where they placed 3rd in the Open D Grade Brass Band section.

Croydon Brass Band enjoyed a fantastic return to competitive banding, finishing 3rd in a field of nine bands in the Open D Grade Brass Band section.

Since COVID-19, the band has been through several years of rebuilding, welcoming new members and developing its strength and experience. This year’s competition marked an exciting step forward, with the band once again finding itself in a competitive position.

The band included learners, first-time members and several players who had never competed before. For these members, the day provided a wonderful opportunity to experience the wider banding community and enjoy the camaraderie of competition.

While the placing was a bonus, the real success was seeing the band come together and enjoy the experience.

Croydon Brass Band competed in the 2026 VBL State Solo & Ensemble Championships

On Saturday 25 July, a group of players from the Croydon Brass Band took part in the annual Victorian Bands’ League 2026 State Solo & Ensemble Championships.

The day was filled with milestones. Many of our newer members competed in their very first music competition, while others had the opportunity to meet and connect with the wider banding community for the first time. Several members stepped up to compete in the Open Section for the first time, and one of our young musicians made his public debut as a Musical Director.

Croydon Brass Band performed at the South Croydon Anglican Church

On Saturday 23 May, the Croydon Brass Band performed an intimate concert at South Croydon Anglican Church. The program featured a varied selection of music, including marches, hymns, film favourites, and Disney classics.

Since COVID, the band has undergone a period of transformation, welcoming many new members into its ranks. Several members were recognised for having been involved with the group for 12 months or less, highlighting the band’s recent growth and renewal. Now back at full strength, the focus has shifted to making music together.

Just as important as the music itself, audience members were treated to some insightful commentary by the band’s musical director and MC, Melina Benger followed by a delightful afternoon tea, making for a warm and enjoyable community event.

The Croydon Brass Band attended this year’s Anzac Service hosted and run by the amazing Croydon RSL and supported by many organisations and individuals from within our local Maroondah and Croydon community.

Croydon Brass Band are humbled and proud to be involved with this very important event each year.
